What is the Surgical Neurology archive?

The Surgical Neurology archive is the complete digital collection of every article published in the peer-reviewed journal Surgical Neurology — from Volume 1 (1973) through Volume 72 (2009). Over 6,500 articles spanning 37 years of neurosurgical scholarship.

Who founded Surgical Neurology?

The journal was founded in 1973 by Dr. Paul C. Bucy and Dr. Robert J. White. Dr. James Ausman served as Editor-in-Chief from 1994 until the final issue in 2009.

What happened to the journal after 2009?

In 2010, Surgical Neurology was renamed World Neurosurgery and continues publication today. This archive preserves the complete original run from 1973–2009.

How is the archive organized?

By volume, issue, author, keyword, and DOI. You can browse chronologically by decade and volume, or search directly by author name, institution, or research topic.

Do you support DOI resolution?

Yes. Every article is indexed by DOI, meaning citation links from Wikipedia, academic papers, PubMed references, and research databases resolve directly to the correct abstract page in the archive.

What subscription plans are available?

Three plans are available: Individual ($29/month), Professional ($79/month), and Institutional (contact us for pricing). All plans include full archive access from Volume 1 through Volume 72.

What does the Professional plan include that Individual doesn't?

The Professional plan includes advanced search filtering, clinical trial filtering, bulk DOI resolution, and priority support — designed for active researchers, residents, and clinicians who use the archive regularly.

How does institutional licensing work?

Institutional plans provide unlimited access for all users within a hospital, university, or library network under a single license. Contact support@surgicalneurology-online.com for custom pricing based on organization size.

Is there a clinical trials section?

Yes. The archive includes a dedicated Clinical Trials section that filters peer-reviewed RCTs, prospective studies, observational studies, and case series from across all 72 volumes.

What subspecialties are covered in the archive?

The archive covers all major neurosurgical subspecialties including cerebrovascular surgery, spine and trauma, neuro-oncology, pediatric neurosurgery, functional neurosurgery, and surgical technique.

Can I access individual articles without a subscription?

Abstracts and metadata are browsable without a subscription. Full article access requires an active Individual, Professional, or Institutional plan.
